Overstory Media Group
I was the lead graphic designer for Overstory Media Group - a community-first parent company helping local journalism companies throughout Canada. Currently, Overstory is working with 16+ individual journalism outlets including publications such as The Coast, Vancouver Tech Journal, and Capital Daily. All brands had one thing in common; local email newsletters delivered daily/weekly.

Capital Daily
Capital Daily is a Victoria-based community news organization that produces in-depth, investigative news along with a daily newsletter. Some projects I’ve worked on for them are:
Capital Daily x Swans Brewery: created a unique beer label that perfectly blended Capital Daily’s branding with a fun and unique style that local brewery labels have. The launch of it also included multiple social assets including designs for social media, newsletter, and Eventbrite.
Banners: Create and print custom flag banners for the Capital Daily team to have for in-person events.
Merchandise: hand illustrating and executing products that fit the Capital Daily brand as well as keeping the integrity of being local for Victorians. This included shirts, stickers, and tote bags.
Capital Daily Speaker Series: first, I created a sub-logo for this special, limited series Capital Daily runs. The first event was an in-person event with Dr. Andrew Huberman and the second was with Nicolas Kristoff. I created multiple social assets as well as assets for the in-person event (slide show, banner, etc.). The design stayed consistent and was easily recognizable across all platforms - and also fit our Speaker’s aesthetic in addition to Capital Daily’s.
Facebook Ads: created over 300 ads to run across Facebook and Instagram - both stagnant and animated.
Reports: designed pamphlets, booklets, and presentations for investors.
Online Assets: Created multiple advertisements for Capital Daily for other newsletters, as well as created the social sharing thumbnail.
B*tchcoin
Btchcoin is an online newsletter making personal finance and investing easy to understand for Canadian women. Some projects that I worked on for this specific brand are:
Brand Identity Redesign: the brand leaders really loved their logo but didn’t like anything else about it. I redesigned the branding identity around it - creating a more vibrant, fun, and enthusiastic look that matched the identity better. I created a visual identity booklet for the brand leaders and their employees.
Social Media: designed templates in Canva for the brand leaders and their social media person could use to help create a consistent visual identity. In addition, created a suite of Facebook Ads for them to run.
Website Redesign: with the brand identity being changed, I redesigned Btchcoin’s website. As the overhaul of the website was being done, I helped aid the development team with the current website seen here. The current social share for the website is designed by me as well.
Setting up for success: the brand basically did a relaunch of its company - seeing as it had a new visual identity. Along with everything above, I made sure little things like stationary, presentations, and everything else in between were done effectively, efficiently, and matched the brand identity for a successful launch and an even more successful future.
Vancouver Tech Journal
Vancouver Tech Journal tells the stories that matter in Vancouver's tech ecosystem. I worked on multiple projects for this outlet including:
Website Redesign: one of the largest projects I’ve worked n with the company. It was a 13-page website highlighting the best features of Vancouver Tech Journal. After researching and creating wireframes, I created prototypes in Figma for desktop, tablet, and mobile.
Victoria Tech Journal: Launching its sister company that focused on the tech industry in Victoria. I created the entire branding, as well as additional assets, for this outlet as well as the prototypes of the other locations.
Reader Survey: In collaboration with local brands, I designed a cohesive marketing campaign.
Social Media: I created multiple templates in Adobe XD as well as Canva for the VTJ team to use. It created a strong and uniformed presence on social media that the brand had lacked previously. As well, I designed multiple different Facebook Ads for VTJ.
Other
Being the lead designer for multiple different brands allowed me to be creative in a lot of unique ways. Some other noteworthy designs I have done within Overstory but throughout different brands are:
Newsletter design: The thing all the brands are known for is their newsletters. I designed new and onboarding brands’ newsletters according to brand standards + what is best for our subscribers. I exacuted templates, as well as campagins. In that same boat, I also did multiple advertisement designs within the newsletters as well.
Branding: Whenever we would introduce a new company without it having a pre-exhisting before, I would create a full branding kit including a brand guide, typography, logo with variations, imagery, social media templates, newletter templates, and any other assets to support the brand launch. Some brands I created from scratch was New West Anchor, Victoria Community Store, Hospitality Industry, Victoria Tech Journal, and Oak Bay Local. In addition, I help revitalize preexhisting brands to help create a fresh and more unison look.
Website Design: In addition to creating prototypes in Figma for previously mentioned outlets such as Bitchcoin and Vancouver Tech Journal, I also aided the development team in the creation of these websites. In addition, I created custom-coded call to action pop-ups on a variety of different websites.
Bill C18: a bill was trying to be passed in Parliament that Overstory saw to be unjust. We partnered together with a bunch of local news companies and my design was the face of the movement. You can see it in The Tyee, Canadaland, and The Sprawl.
Social Media: I created multiple templates for a variety of different platforms that the brand leads and journalists could use daily. These were templated out in Canva for easy of use. Some of the companies did multiple giveaways throughout my time being there that I would create custom social media ads for.
Facebook Ads: You have probably seen one of the Facebooks Ads I have created. I designed over 1000+ ads throughout my time at Overstory Media that ran throughout Facebook and allowed us to gain thousands of new subscribers. I created both stagnant and animated posts & stories.
Illustrations: Designed, created and printed multiple promotional material that included hand-crafted illustrations. In addition, I created a few illustrations for our journalists for featured articles.
Printed Material: I created multiple types of printed material including merchadise, signs, pins and postcards.
Company-wide Presentation: I hosted a company-wide Lunch + Learn where people could have lunch and I would talk about Graphic Design. This presentation including helping each individual person learn a bit about graphic design and set them up with the tools for sucess.
